Charlotte, N.C. (CNN) – The American Red Cross is getting ready to help anyone impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Volunteers and vehicles are on standby at a Red Cross office in Charlotte.
Some shelter teams have already left, heading to the areas expected to be hit by the storm.
Bob Whisnant, a Red Cross volunteer, said when they help give food and shelter to people, it all becomes very emotional.
"They would come up and hug me, cry, and it makes me cry knowing that we're there to help,” Whisnant said.
Forecasters are still trying to pinpoint where Sandy will have its biggest impact when it finally does come entirely over land. Computer models Saturday show it striking somewhere along a roughly 700-mile stretch from North Carolina to as far north as Connecticut.
