Rochester, N.Y. –Did you wake to the sound of icy limbs cracking, breaking and shattering like crystal 22 years ago?
Not only were the sounds of the ice storm of ’91 unlike any other, the sight of it was incredible too.
Twenty-two years ago March 4, freezing rain coated every branch of every tree and power lines as well -- wiping out power to more than 300,000 Rochester Gas and Electric customers.
Businesses closed. Many schools had to close for a week.
The City of Rochester lost a third of its trees.
