Orleans County, N.Y. - The Orleans County Sheriff's Office is investigating two house fires that occurred late Thursday and early Friday mornings.

The first fire broke out around 11:10 p.m. Thursday at 343 S. Clinton Street in the village of Albion.

A second fire broke out Friday at a large vacant home at 2692 Center Road in the town of Murray.

Crews first heard the call in Murray around 4 a.m.; multiple departments responded.

Police say that both fires are considered suspicious.

Peter Dunn, Chief of the Fancher-Hulberton-Murray Fire District, said that structure had been vacant for several years, and that there had been several vacant structure fires in the area in the past year.

Firefighters said the second floor of the 4,000 foot home collapsed making it difficult to battle the fire. The home suffered extensive damage.

“It’s tough. The guys are out here in wet gear, and the wet gear’s freezing,” Dunn said. “Properties can be rebuilt. I can’t replace my firemen.”

No injuries are reported at either fire. The fires are still under investigation; the only link between the two fires is they both occurred in un-occupied houses.
