Rochester, N.Y.- Rochester firefighters say a house fire on Lexington Avenue is arson.
It happened on Friday morning.
There are three apartments in the house, but only one is occupied. Two adults and seven children live there, neighbors say, but they weren't home at the time.
Deputy Chief Martin McMillan says a man ran into the house to help put out the fire, but a police officer on the scene pulled him out.
"I can not emphasize this enough," McMillan said. "Please do not do that. That is a worse case scenario. When they open up a house, it's just like feeding a fire. They give it oxygen. When we fight a fire we never open a house up until we've got water on it. Let us do our job, we'll get here quick, let us do the rescue."
One firefighter got glass in his eye and was taken to Strong Hospital. His injury is not severe, McMillan said, but he will be off for a little while.
