Irondequoit, N.Y. – A barge that was supposed to leave the area Monday afternoon remains in the Irondequoit Bay.
The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge closed to vehicular traffic at 9 a.m. Monday so the barge could pass through into Lake Ontario.
However, a tugboat that was supposed to pull the barge through the channel never arrived because of unfavorable weather conditions.
The barge was originally scheduled to leave the bay on November 1, but could not because of post-hurricane conditions.
Monroe County leaders say they will try to move the barge through the channel at a later date.
The Outlet Bridge joins Irondequoit’s Culver Road with Webster’s Lake Road at the north end of Irondequoit Bay.
