Washington - Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is confirmed to be the next Secretary of State.

He could be sworn in as early as Wednesday, January 30.

Kerry will replace Hillary Clinton who is stepping down after four years.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the U.S. Senate approved his confirmation Tuesday.
