Irondequoit, N.Y.- Only weeks after making a trip to Staten Island and Long Island with five trucks full of supplies, the Sea Breeze Fire Department is planning to go back-- this time with a truck full of toys.
The Sea Breeze Fire Department has teamed up with Point Pleasant, Ridge Culver, Laurelton and St. Paul Fire Departments to collect toys for the children of Staten Island.
“All the services out there are depleted,” said April Hendel, the president of the Sea Breeze Fire Association. “There is only so much they can give around and there is not much left. Christmas is close and so are the other holidays for these kids.”
The goal is to collect 700 toys. The collection started Tuesday, December 11 and will go until Wednesday, December 12. The toys will go to foster children and children who were displaced by the storm.
“It's that time of the year. You're supposed to be thinking of other people. It's time to give not take. These people are not going to be well for a long time. It's going to be very hard to have a normal Christmas, but [it would be nice for these children] to know that Santa is there and someone is bringing toys for them.”
Toys can be dropped off to the Point Pleasant, Ridge Culver, Laurelton, St. Paul and Sea Breeze Fire Departments on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
