Rochester, N.Y. -- They give their time to benefit the local community, but ask for nothing in return. Today, eight local human service workers were honored anyway.

Former Monroe County Sheriff, Andrew Meloni, was among them and received a lifetime achievement award for his work with several local charities.

"I'm humbled by it all. It motivates me to keep working," Meloni said.

Stephanie Shirley, founder of Katie Shirley's Closet in honor of her late daughter, received the Volunteer of the Year award.
