Rochester, N.Y. - It was not your typical housing project that celebrated a ribbon cutting in Rochester Thursday morning.
The Voters Block Community has serious history attached to it.
Its the site where Susan B. Anthony and 15 other women voted illegally in 1872. There will eventually be a memorial to Anthony on the site and the Block Community Development project offers a range of commercial properties, apartments and single homes.
Rochester's Mayor Tom Richards says, "It has an impact on the whole neighborhood. Its a focused investment program - that's what we're trying to do. If you build a house, you help a family. If you build something like this, you help a neighborhood."
Former Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy - now New York's Lieutenant Governor - was on hand to show his support for the project.
