(Rochester, N.Y.) - At least two Rochester-area locations of Popeyes Louisiana Chicken ran out of chicken Wednesday after the chain offered an 8-piece chicken meal for $4.99.
Customers at the Lake Avenue and Penfield franchises reported the stores were closed by dinnertime. The Lake Avenue location's drive-through window had a recorded message and signs saying the store ran out of chicken as a result of the special.
Some customers were angry and said they were the victim of a "hoax." Others said the stores should have prepared in advance for an onslaught of business.
A few customers said the economy made the promotion very attractive, and it was a disappointment they couldn't take part.
A spokesperson for Popeyes said individual franchises should have prepared for the promotion, and the company hopes store owners address customer complaints.
