Macedon, N.Y. - The Macedon Town Board decided not to vote on a controversial proposal Thursday night to change fire protection in the town.

The decision followed a boisterous meeting in which residents told board members to back off its plan.

The plan would have contracted Macedon Center Fire Department to cover territory now covered by the Village of Macedon Fire Department.

The proposal had little to do with safety or savings.

Instead, the move grew out of bad blood between village and town leaders.

Both sides took the opportunity Thursday to air several grievances some of which had nothing to do with fire protection.

At the end of the meeting, after dozens of people asked both sides to communicate with one another, they agreed to meet soon to try and resolve their differences.

Should they mend the fence, the boards would likely avert any change to fire devices.
