Greece, N.Y. - Rochester Gas & Electric plans a major upgrade to facilities in Greece.

The utility hopes to prevent future power outages by installing new equipment at its Maintou Road substation.

The upgrade would allow RG&E to re-route power more easily in the event of a failure.

“The circuit serves tens of thousands of people in that area,” said RG&E spokesman Dan Hucko. “By putting in new circuit breakers in that substation it will help shorten the duration of any outages. It will also help to eliminate a number of outages as well. 30:32

The project is part of a $2.3 billion, five-year plan by RG&E and NYSEG to upgrade the power grid in upstate New York.
