Irondequoit, N.Y. - An arrest has been made in the knifepoint kidnapping and robbery of a woman outside an Irondequoit church on Thursday.

Anthony Cannella is accused of forcing a woman into her car outside St. Josephat's Church on East Ridge Road last week and stealing her ATM card.

Irondequoit Police tell 13WHAM News that they believe Cannella entered the church asking questions, left briefly but returned to use the restroom and then abducted the victim at knifepoint.

The victim is described as being a church employee.

Police believe Cannella then drove her around to several area banks and stole money from the victim's account. He later left the victim unharmed.

Investigator Mark Bean said Cannella was apprehended in the City of Rochester on Saturday at a relative's home and that he surrendered peacefully once located thanks to the urgings of family members.

Canella faces a kidnapping charge as well as multiple robbery and grand larceny charges.

Canella also have multiple robbery convictions in the State of New York and the Department of Corrections website lists prior felony convictions dating back to the mid-1980's.

He is due to appear in front of an Irondequoit Town Judge Wednesday evening for a preliminary hearing.
