LeRoy, N.Y. – LeRoy police have arrested a man after a series of thefts of high voltage wiring in LeRoy and the City of Rochester.
Authorities say Michael Nicometo, 28, of LeRoy began a series of thefts of high voltage wiring in June of 2012. LeRoy Police say they found the thefts to be extremely unusual, as the wires were still connected to the main power grid at the time they were cut.
Between October 2012 and February 2013, several other thefts of high voltage wiring occurred in LeRoy and the City of Rochester. Again, these thefts included high voltage wiring while electricity was still on and connected.
An investigation by LeRoy Police, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Rochester Police Department led to Nicometo’s arrest on Saturday. Nicometo was an electrician.
In his home, numerous items of evidence were recovered.
Nicometo was charged with one count each of the Class D-Felony Burglary in the Third Degree, the Class-C Felony of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree and the Class D-Felony of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.
He was arraigned at the LeRoy Town Court and committed to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash.
