Alden, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York high school swimming coach injured during the bicycle portion of a triathlon last month has died.

Local media outlets report that 46-year-old Gary Grant of Depew died Monday at a Buffalo hospital where he was being treated after being injured on August 26 during the TriDunkirk triathlon in Chautauqua County.

Police say Grant was riding his bike when he lost control and collided with a concrete barricade pole.

Grant was the longtime coach of the boys' swimming team at Alden High School outside Buffalo. He's survived by his wife and three sons.
