Shelby, Orleans County - A 47-year-old is dead after being struck by four cars early Tuesday morning in the Town of Shelby.
Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies say Joseph Tillinghast of Medina was walking in the eastbound traffic lane on Route 31 when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.
Deputies say the crash happened where there were no street lights. The speed limit posted in the area is 55 miles per hour.
According to investigators, Tillinghast was hit by three additional vehicles while he was lying in the roadway.
All four drivers stopped and waited for law enforcement to arrive. It does not appear that the drivers will be charged.
