Rochester, N.Y. – Mayor Tom Richards is hailing the city’s efforts in helping its homeless population.

Richards and area housing officials gathered at City Hall Monday morning to detail their efforts.
The city has helped fund thousands of affordable housing units in recent years. Richards said the city has directly funded $25 million into various housing projects the last six years.

Richards said although housing problems still exist in the city, many improvements have been made.

"Rochester's problem is not that we don't have enough housing; it's that we don't have enough good housing, and that's an important distinction to make,” he said. "At the same time the city's demolishing properties that have become abandoned, it's building new properties for people to live in."
