Rochester, N.Y.—Mayor Thomas S. Richards will recognize the achievements of eighteen area valedictorians from the Rochester City School District on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the City Hall Atrium.
In addition to shining at the top of their class, the scholars have received full and partial scholarships to area colleges such as the University of Rochester, RIT, St. John Fisher College, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Howard University and Smith College. They pursue courses of study including biology, pre-medicine, engineering, biomedical science, computer science and liberal arts.
Some of the students are members of the National Honor Society and are being recognized by the Urban League as Black Scholars. One student scored a perfect 800 on the math SAT while another earned a perfect 800 on the Math II SAT subject test.
Dr. Bolgen Vargas, Rochester City School District Superintendent, will attend the event, as well as the students’ principals, counselors and families.
