Macedon, N.Y. - The woman who was the passenger in a car that struck and killed a Fairport teacher in July has now been charged with DWI in a separate incident.
20 year-old Danielle Schrom was arrested for driving drunk on Route 350 in Macedon on Saturday, October 13th.
State Police say she had a blood alcohol level of .17%.
Police say Schrom was found asleep in her car with no seat belt on and the engine running.
Her cell phone was also in her hand.
Police charged her with two counts of DWI and other charges.
Schrom told 13WHAM she is still traumatized from that fatal accident that killed Fairport teacher, Heather Boyum, in July.
She says she suffers from post-traumatic stress and had a flashback the night she was charged with DWI.
Schrom told us : "Everybody thinks I passed out at the wheel because I was intoxicated. I had a flashback. I thought I saw a bicyclist and runner in the road. When I saw that, I cried."
Schrom told us she was never really friends with Megan Merkel, who was driving the car that hit Fairport teacher Heather Boyum. But, Merkel asked if they could go and pick up her boyfriend, Mark Scerbo, on that July morning.
Schrom says she had taken pain medicine and told Megan she couldn't drive.
But says Merkel never told her she had been drinking.
Merkel drove the car.
Schrom said "She didn't tell me she didn't have a license. She didn't tell me she was intoxicated. She didn't tell me any of that. I said fine. Obviously, it was a mistake."
Schrom was also the owner of the car Merkel drove.
Merkel and her boyfriend, Mark Scerbo, are both charged with DWI and manslaughter in that crash.
Scerbo was operating a motorcycle that also struck Heather Boyum, knocking her off her bicycle and into the path of Merkel's car.
Schrom will appear in Macedon Town Court on the DWI charges later this month.
