Rochester, N.Y. – A mother whose teenage son was the victim of harassment via Facebook is complaining about a lack of attention paid to the case and comparing her case to that of former bus monitor Karen Klein.
In a press release sent to local media, Michelle Hare mentions the money Klein received after the video of her being bullied went viral:
"I don't understand the difference between the bullying that happened to Ms. Karen Klein, 6 months ago in Greece, New York, and what happened to Alex recently, also in Greece, New York. I don't understand how the bullying against Ms. Klein drew international attention, and netted her nearly one million dollars, but no one, including the anti-bullying foundation that Ms. Klein has established and mainstream media, wants to deal with what happened to my son. This cannot stand. It will not stand."
Hare plans to hold a press conference to talk further about her son's case Tuesday, December 11.
The video made by three Greece teenagers has led to an aggravated harassment charge against Nicholas Robare, 18. The video, which contains threats and racial slurs, was posted on the victim's facebook page.
Robere's friends who helped make the video say it was in retaliation after the victim asked an ex-girlfriend to send him nude photos of herself.
The two teens who were not charged--have apologized.
