Rochester, N.Y. – Both major local political parties are spending the weekend getting people out to vote Tuesday.
Democrats held rallies at four different locations Saturday encouraging people to get out to the polls. Party leaders say they’re optimistic for the week ahead.
“This has been the most enthusiastic response to campaigns that I've seen in a dozen years,” said Assemblyman Joe Morelle, Monroe County Democratic Committee chairman. “There's just such energy and excitement about Louise Slaughter, about Ted O'Brien – the Democratic candidates – so we're really excited. We just have about 80 more hours to get through and get voters out to the polls."
Republicans also spent Saturday reaching out to voters. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, who’s running for Congress, says the few days prior to the election are the most critical.
"It's about jobs, it's about the economy and it's about protecting taxpayers,” Brooks said. “Those have been my priorities all along, and we're reinforcing those now with voters. We want them to come out and make a choice, and hopefully they will come out on Tuesday."
