Rochester, N.Y. - 173 guns are off the streets of Rochester.

That's thanks to a gun buyback program over the weekend.

The gun buy back program on Saturday - was organized by prison inmates from Orleans Correctional Facility, church members with the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church and Rochester Police.

Rochester Police say it wa a bigger success than they had hoped.

173 guns were collected and more than $12,000 dollars in cash was paid out to people who dropped off the guns - that's four times what had been budgeted for.

Among the people who dropped off a gun - someone who had lost a loved one to murder.
