Mumford, N.Y. – At least one man was burned in a massive fire at Burnwell Gas Company Tuesday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says one Burnwell employee was burned on his face and arms but his injuries are not considered life threatening.

The explosion happened just after 3 p.m. on Main Street at the Burnwell Gas Company.

Seventy five firefighters from 24 fire companies have been working to put out the fire.

Crews did evacuate homes and businesses.

The Mumford Fire Department said the fire is under control but could burn for several more hours.

Firefighters said getting enough water to keep pouring on the site is their biggest challenge.

They have been drawing water from a nearby creek.

The injured worker was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
