Rochester, N.Y. - Volunteer projects took place across the Rochester area, and across the country to mark Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service on Saturday.

Locally, events are being called "King for a Day." A group of volunteers gathered Saturday morning at the Edgerton Recreation Center before beginning service projects across the community. A group of 60 volunteers helped out at Foodlink, while others participated in other projects.

A group of Nazareth and St. John Fisher College students, meanwhile, volunteered at Episcopal Senior Life Communities.

Nationally, President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aree participating in service projects throughout the Washington area.
