Rochester, N.Y.— Local developer Morgan Management is hoping to build a new multi-million dollar luxury apartment complex along the Genesee River near the popular restaurant Dinosaur BBQ.
According to the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, the project has been in the works for some time but has only recently become public.
David Hanlon, the architect for the project, says the apartment complex will be a 100-unit, multi-story complex over looking the Genesee River. Hanlon says there are still feasibility studies that must be done.
The site sits behind Dinosaur BBQ along South Avenue. The entrance of the old Rochester subway tunnel is also located at the site.
Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, the president of the Downtown Development Corporation, says that the site has proven difficult for development in the past. However, Zimmer-Meyer believes that Morgan Management has done a good job of creatively coming up with solutions to develop the land. For example, the old subway tunnel would be used as underground parking.
The Rochester Business Journal reports the project is estimated to cost $20 million dollars and Morgan Management plans to close on the land within the next few days.
They also report that the developer will submit applications to the city within the next few weeks.
Zimmer-Meyer says that this section of the city is becoming increasingly popular. There are already lofts and apartments in that area and residents have also recently formed the new Washington Square Park Neighborhood Association.
