City Joins Celebration of 'Dark Horse Coffee Shop' Opening
Rochester, N.Y. – After two years of planning, a new restaurant officially opened in the Maplewood neighborhood Tuesday.

Dark Horse Coffee, located at 1182 Dewey Avenue, is owned by Bonnie Haley. The store, right across from the Aquinas Institute, first opened in May 2009. Since then, the restaurant has undergone major changes, including the addition of new hardwood floors, counters, and artwork.

“The restaurant has such a warm atmosphere. It really provides a comfortable environment and will be a great meeting place for the neighbors, school kids and visitors to the Maplewood area,” said Mayor Robert Duffy.

In addition to coffee, Dark Horse will serve paninis, wraps, gourmet coffee, fruit smoothies, soups, salads and breakfast sandwiches.

The business was able to complete the renovations with the help of a $5,000 Small Business Matching Grant from the City’s Neighborhood and Business Development Department.
