Washington - On Monday, Jan. 7, President Obama is expected to announce former Senator Chuck Hagel as his choice for the next Secretary of Defense.
Hagel, a Republican from Nebraska, would replace Leon Panetta, who is retiring.
Hagel could face a rough road to confirmation.
The decorated Vietnam veteran has been criticized for his positions on foreign policy and statements about homosexuals.
