(Rochester, N.Y.)-Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio, who was shot in the head on January 31, has been upgraded from guarded to stable condition.
DiPonzio’s doctor, Paul Maurer, MD, says that Anthony is making “significant progress in recovering from his serious wound.”
“He is speaking this morning, and we are very pleased with his notably improving condition, which is far ahead of where we expected him to be at this point,” Maurer said.
Based on DiPonzio’s progress, doctors anticipate they will be able to transfer him from Rochester General Hospital to Unity Health System’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit as early as next week.
Tyquan Rivera, 14, has been charged with the shooting.
