(Rochester, N.Y.)-Injured Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio will drop the puck at the Amerks’ final home game of the season.

The hockey team announced Tuesday that DiPonzio will take part in the ceremonial puck drop Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Amerks will also be presenting Officer DiPonzio with a check to aid in his recovery.

The proceeds were raised from the team’s Star Toss fundraiser.

Officer DiPonzio returned home last week after rehabilitation at St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was shot in the back of the head January 31 in the line of duty.

DiPonzio will also be throwing out the first pitch at the Red Wings’ home opener on Saturday.
