Sweden, N.Y. - The driver in a deadly crash Friday morning faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Taylor D. Carbonaro, 21, of Sweden, crashed a car just before 1 a.m. Friday near the corner of Lake and White Roads.
A female passenger died in the crash. Carbonaro was hurt, but is hospitalized with a broken leg.
Deputies said Carbonaro was travelling south on Lake Road when he crashed his car into a pole, then hit a parked pickup truck in a nearby driveway.
A witness said he thinks the car was going more than 100 miles per hour just before the crash.
“I‘ll tell you, it's the scariest thing I've ever seen,” said Eric Strong, who witnessed the crash. “It could have been me and my girlfriend in that vehicle!”
The crash victim's name will not be released until her family is notified.
Brian Sage owns the new pickup truck that Carbonaro hit.
"I heard a big thud and I thought the tree fell on the house," Sage said.
Sage went to work later on Friday, but he said he couldn't stop thinking about the woman who died.
"I just feel bad for the girl and her family, it's just too bad."
Sage found Carbonaro under a trailer 30-feet away about 15-minutes after the crash.
