Rochester, N.Y. – Swimming was prohibited at Durand Eastman Beach and Ontario Beach Park after the Monroe County Health Department measured high bacteria levels.

“That’s unfortunate,” said Kaycee Kleehamer, who brought her son to swim at Ontario Beach Park. “We’re bringing another generation of the family here and it’s unfortunate that you can’t enjoy it.”

Christie Thornton brought two girls to the beach hoping to find relief from the heat in the cool water.

“They were a little upset about it, but what are you going to do?” Thornton asked. “I just wish the water would get a little cleaner so we could go in.”

Swimming was also off-limits at Ontario Beach Park on Fourth of July.

Hamlin Beach remained open.
