Hopewell., N.Y. - Lawmakers in Ontario County are the latest elected body to formally protest the state's new gun laws.
In a 17-4 vote, the Ontario County Board of Supervisors passed a motion standing against the N.Y. Safe Act.
The gun control law has drawn the ire of gun owners, many of whom attended the meeting.
“I'm hoping more people in the counties are going to go forth with lawsuits against Cuomo,” said Jeff Albert of West Bloomfield. “The lawsuits are going to make the difference.”
“There were several good pieces…important parts of the Safe Act, and it needed to be put forth with some sort of amendments,” said Charles Evangelista.
Gun rights supporters hope Ontario County's resolution convinces state lawmakers to consider repealing the Safe Act.
A new NBC Wall Street Journal poll shows that 41 percent of New Yorkers think the NY Safe Act is "about right."
Thirty percent say it went too far.
