Oswego Soldier Killed; Honored By Flags At Half-Staff

Albany, N.Y. - Flags will be flown at half-staff on Friday to honor a 23-year-old soldier from Oswego who died in Afghanistan.

A non-combat related gunshot is to blame for the death of Specialist Kyle Rookey from Oswego.

His family was told he died at a military base in Jalalabad in Afghanistan on September 2.

He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Specialist Kyle Rookey leaves behind the wife he married in December, Victoria; their 11-month old child, Flora; two sisters, Angela, 15, and Elizabeth Rookey, 13; his younger brother David Wallace; his parents Carol Sue Akers and George Rookey and his grandparents.
