Perinton, N.Y. - A man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of his wife inside their Perinton Home.

Douglas Irish, 57, killed his wife Patricia in September 2011. Irish then tried to kill himself.

"As a result of today's plea, Mr. Irish has taken responsibility for his actions and will receive a sentence commensurate with the maximum sentence he would have received had the jury found him guilty of the same charge at trial," said Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Caroline Morrison. "Most importantly, it spares the children of the victim from having to return to Rochester to testify, something that would have been terribly traumatic for them to endure."

Surviving members of Patricia Irish's family, who have custody of the victim's three children, supported the plea agreement.

Per conditions of Douglas Irish's plea agreement, he will receive a sentence of 25 years in prison when he's sentenced next month. Irish also waived his right to appeal.
