Henrietta, N.Y. – New information on the woman who was hit and killed by a car while walking on Lehigh Station Road near the Super 8 hotel Tuesday morning.
Veronica A. White, 52, of Henrietta was walking on the side of the road instead of the sidewalk that runs parallel to the road.
A witness said she was stopped at a red light when she saw the woman walking and wondered why she wasn't on that sidewalk.
“She was walking with traffic, which was kind of scary,” said Ashley Avery who witnessed the accident on her way to work. “But I think she walked it everyday because I actually think I may have seen her more then once here, working here in the morning. I felt horrible, I don't know what to say, it was ridiculous,” Avery said.
Officials said White was wearing dark clothing at the time.
Workers at the Sunoco near where the accident happened believe the woman was a regular who came in at odd hours in the morning to collect bottles and cans.
The driver who hit her will not be charged.
