ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A Republican New York businessman who was considering challenging Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand (KEHR'-sten JIL'-uh-brand) for her U.S. Senate seat says he has decided not to run.

The New York Times reports that businessman Marc Cenedella released a statement Tuesday evening saying said he had decided against running because the political calendar was too compressed for him to mount a bid for the Republican nomination to challenge Gillibrand.

Cenedella's decision comes after he was harshly criticized for a blog under his name that included entries with titles such as titled "Sexy vs. Skanky" and "High Quality Dope." The Times first reported the postings last week.

Cenedella, CEO and founder of the job-search site TheLadders.com, had met with GOP leaders in New York about a possible run for Gillibrand's Senate seat.
