Denver, Colo. - The first of three presidential debates takes place tonight.

President Obama and Mitt Romney will go head to head at the University of Denver.

The 90-minute debate will focus on the economy and domestic policy.

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll shows the race for president is still close, with President Obama leading Romney 49 to 47 percent.

Both of the nominees' spouses talked about their hopes for tonight.

“We have a debate coming up, and we are excited about that,” said Romney’s wife Ann. “We're focused, and I can't wait for the contrast that we are going to hear tomorrow.”

First Lady Michelle Obama said, "He doesn't need much advice…he's been doing this for quite some time…he knows the job.”

The debate will be moderated by PBS’ Jim Lehrer.

Watch that first debate tonight at 9 p.m. on 13WHAM-TV.
