Rochester, N.Y. - A new proposal by State Assemblyman Michael Benedetto aims to eliminate tackle football for children 10 years old or younger.

“It’s an aggressive sport, but kids can handle it,” said Keith Warren, a parent whose ten-year-old son plays youth football.

The focus on concussions in football has risen in recent years, partially because of lawsuits faced by the National Football League from former players suffering long term effects of head injuries.

When it comes to concussions, medical experts say there is more that we don’t know when it comes to concussions.

“Is it the number of hits that we have?” asked Anthony Petraglia, Senior Neurosurgery Resident at the University of Rochester Medical Center. “Is it the velocity or sheer force that an athlete sustains?”

Robert Cantu, a neurosurgeon at Emerson Hospital in Massachusetts reportedly called for a ban on youth football for children under the age of 14.

A Mayo clinis study showed football to be no more dangerous to play than basketball or soccer for youth players. LOTS more injuries on a % basis in bike riding, skateboarding, skiing- hype and hate, http://winningyouthfootball.com
