Rochester, N.Y. - The Rochester Institute of Technology will create a new research center devoted strictly to digital media.
It will be called the MAGIC Center, which stands for media, arts, games, innovation and creativity.
The center will be composed of two parts: A university-wide research and development laboratory; and MAGIC Studios, a production studio that will assist in efforts to bring digital media creations up to marketplace standards and commercialized.
That means students will have the opportunity to be involved with intellectual property negotiations and profit sharing.
Professor Andrew Phelps has been tapped as the founding director of the new initiative.
