Henrietta, N.Y. – High school robotics teams from across the region took over RIT’s Gordon Field House Saturday.

The FIRST Finger Lakes Robotics Competition featured 49 teams from the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Canada competing for the chance to advance to the national competition in St. Louis.

Teams from Penfield, Victor and Canandaigua each won their respective regional championships.

Organizers say the main goal, though, is to get kids interested in science, technology, math and science.

“There are not enough kids getting excited about science and math,” said Glen Pearson, FIRST’s regional director. “We need those kids for the future to build the kinds of industries, machines and make the inventions we need for a better life for the future.”
