Greece, N.Y.  – Dan Maloney trails John Auberger by about 400 votes in the race for Greece Town Supervisor, and Maloney wants all the absentee ballots counted and the voting machines checked. He believes it’s possible the outcome of the race could yet change.

Republican Supervisor John Auberger admitted this race was one of the toughest re-election bids he has faced, due largely to criticism over several scandals in the Greece Police Department.

“I thought it would be close, because of all the lies and dirty campaigning,” Auberger said. “It was a tough race, but we won it."

Though Auberger celebrated his apparent win along with county Republicans, his opponent Democrat Dan Maloney said he's not conceding until all the absentee ballots are counted. “We're going to wait until all the votes are counted. Voters in Greece deserve that.”

Auberger’s slim edge over Maloney by 400 plus includes some absentee ballots already counted.

Monroe County GOP Elections Commissioner Peter Quinn said, “The majority of the absentees do get counted election night, and are in the totals already.”

Next Tuesday, the board of elections will count the rest of the absentee ballots that trickle in; the board must wait seven days after the election to count late absentee ballots, in order to give them time to arrive from soldiers and others who are overseas.

Right now there are about 124 late absentee ballots yet to be counted.

The board of elections indicated that no race is official until properly certified in two weeks.

On Friday, voting machines will be recanvassed.
