Syracuse, N.Y- On Wednesday afternoon, CBSSports.com reported that Syracuse University has been under NCAA investigation for “a period of years” for “transgressions [that] were described as both major and wide-ranging in nature”.

The report cites an anonymous source with knowledge of the case. According to this source, you could “throw a dart at the [NCAA] Manual and you would hit a violation by Syracuse."

Shortly after, the Syracuse Post-Standard published similar reports citing their own unnamed sources.

According to The Post-Standard, the NCAA has been conducting interviews of several S.U. staff members about several issues including how Fab Melo’s academic eligibility was handled and a sexual assault case involving three SU basketball players.

The CBS Sports report states the investigations involved the football program as well, but is primarily focused on the basketball program.

The news of the reports broke just a day before the SU basketball team was to face Montana in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

This time last year, Syracuse was also being investigated on allegations that players who were in violation of the school’s drug policy, were still allowed to play or practice.

The NCAA has not commented on the recent reports of investigations.

At a press conference Wednesday, Coach Jim Boeheim said he and his players were not distracted by the reports and they were focusing attention on the game against Montana.
