Gates, N.Y. - Transportation engineers are still asking for public help as they finalize plans to revamp a heavily traveled stretch of road.

"The purpose of this project is to ease travel and improve safety," said Lori Maher, DOT spokesperson.

390&490 at Lyell Avenue carries carries roughly 200,000 vehicles daily.

On Monday, an alternative plan was unveiled to community members. They included changes geared toward safety and lowering noise. Some question if they'll help others wonder why there have been so many steps.

"I think perhaps they should go back to the drawing board," said Darlene Eastland, a nearby resident.

"It's going to take a long time you know," added Floyd Maynard who lives in Greece.

The New York Department Of Transportation will hold a public hearing in fall as it prepares a final draft. Construction wouldn't begin until 2015.
