Anchorage, Alaska - An Army specialist has been arrested in the shooting death of his wife, Sara Lopez, from Hilton, N.Y.
David Lopez, 24, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, terroristic threatening and resisting arrest following the death of his wife, Sara Lopez.
According to Anchorage Police Department, the Rochester man also threatened to kill social workers who took his daughter away Wednesday after a report of child abuse.
Shortly after that call, he called police from his East Anchorage apartment, saying he thought he had shot his wife, according to police.
Police allege he said he shot her because she was responsible for their daughter being "taken away."
“Complete shock,” said family friend, Derek Collins, when asked what he thought when he heard Sara had been killed. “There was nothing indicating any fear on the family’s part or friends, there was no concern. There had been no long time standing concerns as far as violence. This came out of the blue.”
David Lopez was home on a 30 to 60 day leave from a tour in Afghanistan.
Responding medics declared Sara Lopez dead at the scene.
Lopez graduated from Hilton High School in 1999. She also has family in Hamlin, N.Y.
