Rochester, N.Y. – The extreme cold has some business owners bringing outdoor employees inside.

“For the guys, you have to close the doors,” said Vincent Allen, owner of Evergreen Carwash on Lake Avenue in Rochester. Drying cars on cold days is a must" he said.

“Today, it's more about just trying to dry it real fast,” said Allen, “and make sure it is thoroughly dry so when the cars do pullout, we don't have to worry about them freezing over.”

But, not all workers are so lucky to move indoors as the mercury drops.

Tuesday was the first full day of construction on the Fairport Lift Bridge and workers are trying to stay warm.

“Wear lots of clothes, thermal, long johns,” said Job Superintendent, James O’Brien.

But, those extra clothes can make it difficult to work.

“You can't bend over and you have to take your gloves off and put them on,” said O’Brien. ”Everything's going to take twice as long.”

Another way the workers stay warm is by taking extra breaks in a heated truck.
