Rochester Observes Veterans Day

Rochester, N.Y. -- Ceremonies throughout the region will commemorate the sacrifice of the Armed Forces on Veterans Day.

National Technical Institute for the Deaf

Henrietta, N.Y. -- RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf is honoring veterans on Veterans Day.

The school held its first Veterans Day observance Thursday morning.

RIT has about 175 students who are veterans, reservists, National Guard members, active duty members, or family members of service men and women.

“Veterans Administration recognizes about 70,000 returning veterans with hearing loss from Iraq and Afghanistan alone,” said Steve Campbell, Director of Technology and Information Services at NTID. “As our vets come back to the states and are looking to go back to school, RIT is a very good choice for them.”

Rochester Institute of Technology is a "yellow ribbon" college offering reduced tuition for veterans.

State, City, County Offices Closed Veterans Day

Rochester, N.Y. -- A number of services are closed today in honor of Veterans Day.

Federal, state, and county offices; Rochester city hall, neighborhood service centers, and libraries are closed, as well as banks and post offices.

City garbage collection remains on schedule.
