Rochester, N.Y. - They've been together for 20 years, and Sunday, they were finally able to tie the knot.
Hart Kooymans married longtime partner Wayne Callahan at the Rochester Radisson. They got their marriage license last month when gay marriage was legalized.
The couple hopes their relationship can be an inspiration for other same-sex couples.
"For my special day, I hope to open the doors for other gay people to finally come out," Kooymans said.
Both Hart and Wayne say they've been open about their sexuality for a long time.
"My family accepts me for who I am," Kooymans said.
They say planning the ceremony was a challenge, but they're happy their marriage will now be recognized by the state.
"It's about getting your family together and celebrating the fact that you two love each other enough to marry [and] to make it legal," Hart said.
The couple plans to take a cruise next month.
