Canandaigua, N.Y.— A 710.30 notice filed with the Ontario County Clerk’s Office shows that the district attorney’s office may have compelling evidence against Rose Chase.
Rose Chase is accused of killing her husband, Adam Chase, dismembering his body and burning the body parts at her mother’s house in Yates County.
Adam Chase was first reported missing in June 2012. At first, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office handled his disappearance as a missing person’s case. Rose Chase was arrested for murder in December 2012 after she allegedly told a private investigator that she killed Adam and burned his body.
On February 8, 2013, a grand jury indicted her on charges of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a child.
The indictment states that Rose Chase had her young son in the car at the same time she was transporting Adam Chase’s decomposing body to her mother’s home.
According to the 710.30 notice, on December 13, 2012, Rose told investigators that Adam’s death “was an accident, he fell down the stairs”. She agreed to take investigators to her mother’s house to show them the body stating that “there should be still bones in the ashes.”
The notice states that once they were at her mother’s house, Rose said “I’m so sorry, mom” while showing investigators a silver metal trash can full of ashes and pieces of bone.
When Rose’s mother asked if the bones could be from a deer, Rose responded by stating “if it was a deer, I wouldn’t be here confessing.”
According to the notice, Rose told investigators that Adam died after a fight the two had in June 2012. “Yeah, it happened right after he punched the wall,” Rose allegedly told police.
In statements made to investigators in August 2012, Rose allegedly told police that she had multiple boyfriends during her marriage with Adam. She told investigators that Adam did not pay attention to her because he would always be playing video games. The notice states that she also told investigators that her boyfriend had moved into her home after Adam’s disappearance in order to help pay the monthly bills.
In July 2012, when investigators questioned Rose about her boyfriend staying at her home and what she would do if her husband came back she said, “He’s not coming…. No, I’m not taking him back.”
The notice also states that Rose told a private investigator, hired by Adam Chase’s family, that she had killed Adam and that she left his body in the basement for several days before removing it piece-by-piece to take to her mother’s home. She told the private investigator that she did not have help removing the body.
Rose Chase is scheduled to appear in court again for a motions hearing on May 2. The judge will then determine of these statements are admissible as evidence in the trial.
