Buffalo, N.Y. -- The second longest-tenured coach in major North American professional sports is no longer Lindy Ruff. Wednesday, the Sabres announced the release of the 15-season Buffalo coaching veteran, on the heels of a 2-1 loss to Winnipeg Tuesday night.
The Sabres have failed to make the playoffs in three of the last 5 seasons, and haven't made it past the Conference Quarterfinals since the 2006-07 season.
Rochester Americans coach Ron Rolston has been named the team's coach for the remainder of the season. Chad Cassidy will coach Rochester Wednesday night when the Amerks host Texas.
At 6-10-1 and with just 13 points, the Sabres rank near the bottom of the NHL's Eastern Conference so far this year.
