NEW YORK (AP) - New York lawmakers lauded the passage of a $60.4 billion emergency spending package for Sandy recovery in the Senate, but urged the House to pass the measure quickly in order to help devastated areas.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday he was grateful for the approval, but called for the House to take action -- or residents would suffer. The bill faces uncertain prospects in the House. Republican leaders favor a smaller aid package to pay for immediate recovery needs, saying they need more time to consider any additional aid.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted that funds were made available to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina within 10 days of the storm. It's been nearly nine weeks since Sandy struck the East Coast in late October.
